Melissa Bain "My paintings portray literal 'thinking' characters and subjects: snapshots of personalities and the personal traits and thoughts that embody them, merged with my own." -Melissa Bain

"A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts." It is this ideal that intrigues my imagination and inspires my creativity. My paintings portray literal 'thinking' characters and subjects: snapshots of personalities and the personal traits and thoughts that embody them, merged with my own. Distorted expressions and eyes, vibrant colours and seductive forms reveal the moods and the intriguing state of being in each work. I am self-taught and appreciate the works of Chagall, Picasso, and German Expressionist painter Max Beckmann as being influential to my artistic development and style. Painting has always been an instinctual part of my being. Through my work, my insatiable desire to create is fulfilled and my own character and innermost seeds of thought are revealed.
"Composer, sculptor, painter, poet, prophet, sage, these are the makers of the after world, the architects of heaven. The world is beautiful because they have lived; without them, labouring humanity would perish."
-James Allen, As a Man Thinketh
